A single score hides detail, and it depends on how it is added up. This one gives every topic the same weight. That is a choice, not a fact, and a different choice gives a different number. Further down you can see what happens under two other ways of adding it up.

How the score is made

    Where a country has no figure for a date, that measure is left out of its average for that date. The four dates are about five years apart, and each measure uses its own latest year, so "now" is not one single year.
